Suffering Is Not Proof of Guilt

About a 3 minute pause

THE FAMILIAR VIEW

Every hardship proves that the person suffering must have done something to deserve it.

ROTATE THE PRISM

Not every wound is a verdict.

People suffer because of other people’s choices, unjust systems, fragile bodies, accidents, and mysteries no simple formula can explain.

Blaming pain can make the world feel predictable. But compassion is often more truthful than an answer that leaves the hurting person alone.

SIT WITH THIS

Where have I used an explanation to distance myself from another person’s pain?

Can I honor responsibility without making suffering proof of guilt?

‘Who sinned, this man or his parents?’ ‘Neither this man nor his parents sinned,’ said Jesus.
John 9:2–3

CARRY THIS TODAY

Meet one person’s pain with presence before reaching for an explanation.

Sometimes the holiest answer to suffering is not an explanation, but companionship.
